Scilly Cay is a lunch only restaurant and we wish we had known about it earlier in out trip so that we could have gone there twice. We were there on November 7th.Scilly Cay is not just a restaurant. It is an excersise in relaxation; a tropical paradise. It is set on a small island approximately 200 yards out in Island Harbour. Just walk to the end of the pier, wave your arms, and a boat will come and take you to the island.
As they have no power the menu is limited to three dishes; lobster, crayfish and chicken. All are grilled while you wait. And that was the best grilled chicken I have ever had. It had the most incredible glaze on it. I wish I could buy it by the bottle for my own outdoor BBQ.
As for the setting, it can only be said that Scilly Cay is to be experienced. Lunch is served at outdoor tables under thatched umbrellas but that is only part of the overall experience. There are numerous lounge chairs which you are encouraged to use to enjoy the sun and a small beach for swimming if you get too hot. The landscape and overall appearance of Scilly Cay is enhanced by plantings of flowering bushes and catuses and retaining walls cleverly decorated with conch shells.
Scilly Cay was one of the most memorable experinces of our trip and the Wallace's (owners) worked very hard to make it so. They are wonderful people and excellent hosts.
If you want food that makes your mouth water and cold drinks served by friendly people in an atmosphere that truly makes you feel that you have escaped reality and landed on a tropical island in a movie, then you want to visit Scilly Cay. Just remember to take suncreen, a beach towel, a bathing suit, a camera and cash (They don't take credit cards.). You will leave there with a memory that will last a lifetime.
