Altamer 03/14/2006
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Altamer - Dinner Tuesday Night - last night. What an absolutely gorgeous restaurant. Beautiful setting, lovely furniture, china and linens, first class all the way. We were early - I thought they had a happy hour, but there was no one there - it was about 5:45pm, so we ordered a couple of rum punches and I went outside to take some pictures. Debbie, the bartender very kindly offered to set us up at a table outside, so off we went. Beautiful setting overlooking the beach. Perfect view of the sunset - which turned out to be unbelievable. Dinner was one of those sublime experiences you dream about. We shared everything, and they did not bat an eye at this request. White gazpacho soup. It was thick and creamy, garlic, ground almonds and white cheese. The tomato tart with a light-as-air crust layered with warm sweet tomatoes, and melting gruyere cheese. And the fish sampler which they split and delivered on two plates - more than enough for two . Im so glad we didnt order more as this size was perfect for us. It consisted of a sweet potato snapper with a sweet potato and coconut crust in an orange sauce, (my favorite), grouper coated in macadamia, pistachio and pine nuts, and mahi mahi topped with a blackbean/corn salsa (Petes favorite). It was all really, really mouth watering good. I ordered a coffee for dessert and sat back and enjoyed Dumpa and his steel pan sounds. Tied with Bananas for number two.
