Anguilla Restaurant & Dining Reviews Reviews
Covecastles 06/10/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
We tried Covecastles for the first time this year after hearing rave reviews about the restaurant and the romantic setting offered by its small intimate setting. While it was generally excellent, we came away somewhat disappointed. The dining room is very attractive, set in front of an attractive garden (can see a little bit of the beach), but the glass doors/windows were closed and we missed the open air dining environment found in most of the other restaurants on Anguilla. Secondly, we had gone there expecting a very romantic dinner only to be seated next to a table with six, very noisy diners. While they were obviously thoroughly enjoying themselves, it took something away from the intimate atmosphere that we expected (and the restaurant probably usually provides). The food itself ranged from very good to superb - most everything was very good, but not really memorable. However, the spicy stuffed crab appetizer accompanied with seaweed salad was probably the best appetizer we had during our stay (I like spicy and it was). Although they had a crayfish special the night we were there, upon the advice of our waitress, I ordered the grilled crayfish from the regular menu instead. She was right - I found myself served with a truly heaping plateful (6 in total) of perfectly grilled crayfish that could not have been improved upon and I was in heaven. Overall, a very good meal, but expensive in comparison with most other restaurants on Anguilla. However, maybe if we had enjoyed the more romantic environment experienced by others we talked to, we might have rated the whole experience higher.
