Anguilla Restaurant & Dining Reviews Reviews
Ripples 09/15/2005
Reviewers Rating: Fair
*Actually no stars* Last week we went to Ripples one of the few restaurants that remained open during the off season. We had read a couple of favourable comments but no rave reviews. However, since our options were limited, we decided to give it a try. After drinks we ordered dinner with an appetizer called flaky brie to start. We also ordered a bottle of white wine to go with our main courses which were both seafood. The appetizer we were expecting was brie in a flaky pastry but what we received was brie in a deep fried batter. We had also asked for one appetizer to be shared but received one each. The wine arrived before the main course and the waitress immediately filled our glasses without allowing us to taste it. When we did taste it, it was warm and when we complained the waitress brought us some ice cubes to put in it. We refused to do this and I complained to the bartender who said the wine cooler was broken and they would replace our bottle. In the meantime our main courses arrived and, like the appetizer, they had no special qualities. My wife's shrimp dish included five medium shrimp on a bed of rice. My conch resembled something rubbery in ketchup with a couple of sautéed vegetables. Just as we were finishing this our wine arrived which we refused as we believe in enjoying our wine with dinner not with coffee. With the wine removed from the bill and not a hint of an apology for the service, we left in disgust. The bill for this forgettable meal with the unforgettable service was still over 100 US dollars.
