Barbados Restaurant & Dining Reviews
David's Place 06/02/2003
Reviewers Rating: Good
This is a hard review to write, since until 10 minutes before we left the restaurant I would have given it 4 Stars. It is situated in St Lawrence Gap, and is fairly easy to access. The greeting at the door was very friendly and polite. The beach setting is fabulous and as we sat right alongside the open edge the sea breeze was terrific. The starter and main course were delicious - fish as fresh as you would expect. The service is very good. Unfortunately, it went slightly awry at this point. I ordered a "Bajan Coffee" - expecting an Irish style coffee, but with rum instead of whisky. It was served in a dimpled pint glass with a handle (not very elegant) and it was really dreadful - hardly any coffee and a peculiar colour. The waiter brought the bill before we had finished our meal and I paid in cash, with a generous tip. We paid the waiter and then followed him up towards the front door. As we did so, the manager exhorted the waiter (in our earshot and that of other customers) to make sure he checked our money before we left. I found this extremely insulting and was quite upset by it. So the bottom line is - go for the food and the setting, avoid the coffee and make sure you wait for the bill and any change to be returned to the table before you leave!
