Cancun & Cozumel Restaurant & Dining Reviews Reviews
Thai Lounge 07/08/2005
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Looking for a truly wonderful place to dine in Cancun? Try the Thai Lounge. For days I searched for a restaurant with excellent food and a serene setting. By the sixth day I had given up hope of finding either. And then one of the hotel personnel said, "Try the Thai Lounge." I headed to the La Isla Mall where Thai Lounge was located with trepidation. I love Thai food and was worried whether good Thai food could be found in Cancun. Furthermore, at the mall with all its glaring atmosphere was not a place that evoked serenity. Without question after reaching the outer edges of the mall, I was in awe. Thai Lounge was truly serene. I was greeted with low lights, sultry & rhythmic music, individual tropical forested cabanas for cozy dining, set with the outside wall of the Mall on one side, and the lagoon and dolphin tank of the aquarium on another. The whole family sighed and said "wow this is the best of all the settings at which we've dined." Luis Paulo, the host, and the rest of the staff reflected the pinnacle of courteousness. The fair representation of Thai staff further created the atmosphere of being on the other side of the world. Service was prompt and very attentive. Even Luigi Biagi, the manager, made an appearance to check on the how we liked the restaurant. Now to the key issue of what was the quality of the cuisine. For one who takes pride in only eating good Thai food, and doing so several times a month, the meal was a truly authentic gastronomic delight. The food was so fresh, the meats and vegetables tasted so light not smothered by the sauces or curries in which they might have been served. The portions were more than adequate, and didn't have to win me over by burying me with lots of food. The family shared an assortment of dishes, a spicy chicken soup, thai salad, chicken satay, spicy chicken entre, and shrimp curry entre are a few I remember. Without fail it was the best ending to a week of dining.
