Janchies 05/12/2003
Reviewers Rating: Good
Janchies (I might have spelled it wrong) is on the main road just before Westpunt at the west end of the island. Yes, its a tourist spot but worth stopping (besides there is not much else out there). As soon as you get out of your car you hear a strange noise that gets loader as you get closer to the restaurants. The noise is hundreds of little Sugar birds all attacking Janchies bird feeders for a free meal(sugar)! There are also a few Orioles and black eyed doves. Bring you camera for some great shots. The kids love it. My wife and I sat at a table about 8 feet from the birds and were kept amussed for the entire lunch time. There is no menu, the owner tells you the specials. The lunches are mainly fresh fish platters served in a mild creole style. Different but tasty. A little pricey at about $15 for lunch but the entertainment of the birds was worth it. Chuck
