The Cayman Islands Restaurant & Dining Reviews Reviews
Deckers 06/23/2005
Reviewers Rating: Great
Deckers is a nice little restaurant on Seven Mile Beach providing a casual atmosphere and a wide variety of high-quality, Caribbean-esque dishes including grilled Caribbean lobster, their specialty. The food was very good, two of my lobster tails were slightly overcooked but still enjoyable, and the third was wonderfully done. From my experience there, Decker's most redeeming quality was the absolutely exquisite appetizers. Particularly the crab cakes and the seviche--these are worth the trip alone. The service was also very good and the prices were modest for an establishment of its caliber.
However, I have a fairly vehement complaint for Deckers, which prevented me from giving them a 4 star rating. The lobster is NOT "all you can eat" as they continue to advertise. Apparently the freezers used for the lobster was destroyed during hurricane Ivan, preventing them from keeping enough lobsters for all-you-can-eat. The most upsetting thing about this is not just that the lobster is not all-you-can-eat, but that Deckers continues to advertise it as being so, even on their website (as of 6/05) and in magazines. We drove all the way from the East End expecting all-you-can-eat lobster and were very much disappointed. This is at best irresponsible marketing and at worst a very underhanded strategy for bringing people into the restaurant.
Overall, once I got over the lack of all-you-can-eat lobster, the experience was wonderful and I recommend it.
