My wife and I visited this resort in January and overall rate this resort as "good." This resort is not comparable to 4 or 5 star resorts in any way. ALL the rooms are definitely on the small side and welll worn (our screen door did not close completely and the air conditioner was very noisy and in need of cleaning). The food is buffet for the most part although their is some table service for breakfast, lunch and dinner (for breakfast it is for a "hot" breakfast, for lunch and dinner this is mostly just for coffee, water etc.). The food is also very much English cuisine catagory - read "boiled"....boiled veggies, potatoes...limp salads etc. (probably because a majority of the guests seem to hail from the UK). The staff are laid back for the most part which is OK since you go to any island to get on "island time"....but when you are in a hurry (to make a catamaran tour start) or want some extra coffee you got to stay on them to get it. The staff act like they're just doing their jobs - greeting guests by name or giving an impromtu smile is rare to non-existent. On one particular occassion we ahve to mention that this general atmosphere included the beach bar being closed early with bottles, glasses and bar equipment being noisily cleared infront of more than afew guests with not a word spoken but with such a surlly attitude that guests chatted about this person for days afterwards. I won't mention his name here but suffice to say that in another review for the Rex Blue Heron from 2003 he is mentioned as the main man - which we would agree - since he has the attitude - to the extent that you feel you have to be extra polite to get a pre-dinner drink request filled!
The main feature of this resort is the beach and we agree with other reviews that if you want to kick back and enjoy a island holiday in a sleepy low to mid-range resort this is a good choice. If you want to "lively yourself" up a bit in a resort with some dynamic evening entertainment and more selection of food and superior service and still enjoy an unhurried itinerary and a great beach- there are other choices.
