Anguilla

Despite announced plans to close for 5 months as of the end of May, we found the Sonesta to be a great place to stay. While not in the same class as Cap Juluca, we like it as well and find it to be a much better value if money is at all important. Actually, we have stayed there in the past and found it generally improved somewhat this year. The grounds are very attractive, the rooms are large and the staff was friendly and very responsive to any requests. The new restaurant (Il Mare) was surprisingly good, particularly for lunch (but definitely do NOT plan to eat there exclusively as there are too many great restaurants on Anguilla). However, the best thing about the hotel is the white sand beach (both good swiming and snorkeling) with great views of St. Martin. If you are not on a tight budget, avoid the garden view rooms (which are still very nice) and get closer to the water as it is nice to have the views and hear the waves on the beach at night.
