Aruba Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
La Cabana 08/26/2003
Reviewers Rating: Good
My family of five just stayed at La Cabana and we had a great time in Aruba. We had read some of the reviews of La Cabana and they were mixed. The hotel is located just across from Eagle beach which is a very nice beach. It is a lot more wide open than Palm Beach. You merely have to cross a two lane road to get to the beach. We felt totally comfortable doing this and having our kids cross the road (the youngest is 10). The pools and bar areas are very nice. The Grand Villa room fit five comfortably with a pull-out in the living room. Being in the Villas makes for a bit of a walk from your room to the beach so it could be a little cumbersome with little children. We were on the all-inclusive plan which I give a mixed review. It's good for the all-inclusive drinks as they can add up even for the kids. However, the restaurants for dinner get a little stale after a few nights plus if your kids don't enjoy a variety of food you pay a lot for eating basic food. The service overall was good except for a few instances. Being such a large resort, I think it probably is hard to get consistency. The all-inclusive plan also charges extra for certain menu items or top-shelf liquor. For instance, the wine they served with dinner was undrinkable so we payed an incremental charge for a better wine. The activities staff is very helpful and you can book anything you want at the hotel. Overall, I would recommend this for people who don't mind large places or lots of children around.
