We have travelled our fair share in the Caribbean and Mexico and Mexico still wins our heart for a country with lots to see and do, history, culture and and wonderful hospitality from the Mexicans.
The Barcelo Maya is still one of our top resorts we have visited so far. We had been to the Barcelo Maya resort in July 2001 and enjoyed it and this our second time in November 2003 and still enjoyed it. It offers very good value and there is something to do for everyone. Food is good and service wonderful, especially if you try speaking a little Spanish. The bars could use more help, but they still tried to please. Room maid was fantastic. This time we noticed the water was not as clear in the main swimming area, but if you go to the right or left of the main area, the water was clearer. Snorkelling for us this time was not as good as our prior visit. The beach is great for walking and there are lots of areas to get privacy and away from the crowd. Another thing I really like is that there is no towel/hut game. There are tons of lounge chairs and lots of shade both near the two beautiful pools and at the beach. We would go back again if we got a great sell-off, but would like to try another resort the next time.
