Great
Visited with family which included three kids 12, 10 and 7.Had a wonderful time. Rooms were very clean and modern (Hilton to redo all baths in March 2003...why I don't know, I travel all over the world and they're more than acceptable). I'd put the money into several other little things initially (linen upgrade for example...nothing like plush towels). The rooms are slightly larger than an average hotel room. Spotless.
Food was ample and well prepared but it takes a long time to get served...plan to relax...a lot,
Staff was very friendly but at times maddingly slow.
Resort is great for families. Very relaxed atmosphere, very safe.
Very well maintained.
Hilton plans a lot of landscaping changes which are needed to fully make this a four star resort. Landscaping is the one area that is sorely neglected. The mini golf is a disgrace and should simply be bulldozed. The beaches are beautiful, the pools magnificent and well maintained...a great kiddies pool...one of the best I've encountered anywhere for little kids.
Hilton is also completely redoing the meeting rooms (very poor)to make this property attractive for convention business.
In summary, we loved this as a family. Vastly preferred it (as a family..maybe not if just the two of us) over the much stuffier Marriott next door with all its signs and restrictions on what attire/where. The activities, bands, entertainment are all wonderful. The onsite PADI center is excellent. You really felt like you were experiencing the island locals throughout the resort. Constant music in the background, a staff given to simply spontaneously dancing or singing...real genuine feel to it..not aniseptic. (Again, that Marriott) The Casino needs an upgrade....I can't believe its a draw...but I hate CAsino's
It's very, very close to being a real draw as a resort. Hilton with some resources could really pull it off. The property alone is huge, with enormous potential above what already is in place, but it needs special attention in training, real attention to landscaping (a full time staff could fix this place in a year and have it looking spectacular), and speed of delivery of food from the kitchen (ave 60 min wait at every dinner ...thats a lot of waiting over several days!). It was good food, it just took forever and a seven year old doesn't understand.
