Breezes Curacao 7/26/03 – 8/2/03

*** BRING WATER SHOES!!!!!!!!!!!!

TELEFAST PHONE CARD
There are phones around the island for these phone cards. If you are from the US you pick up the phone and wait to hear English. Than punch in your card number (from the back of the card) followed by the pound sign. Than they will ask for the destination code. For the US you dial 011 area code than number followed by the Pound sign. EXAMPLE: 011 (777) 777-7777#

A 10 Fl Card cost $6.00 US and gives you 23.58 minutes of talk time to the US. Other countries just change the 011 to your own Country Code.

There is a phone by the taxi stand across the street from Breezes and many in Willemstad. I’m sure there is one near all the resorts and in most towns.

Food:
Food was good; the buffet had a very good variety with many choices. The salad choices were more plentiful at lunch than at dinner. Dinnertime had the basic salad choices. Always catch of the day, chicken, and either pork, lamb, beef and even ham one night. The Munahana was very good and the Pastafari was very good too. Both worth the reservation process. Make your reservation as soon as you get there for the best choice of time and day. You cannot get in without a reservation and they fill up with the popular times quickly. Breakfast and lunch at the buffet were very good with many choices. The beach grill was very good too with chicken tenders, fries, hot dogs, Hamburg’s, Quesadias, cheese and or meat or both. They also have Krokets which is deep fried dough wrapped around mashed potatoes and beef. These were very good.

The bars were open and had top shelf liquor. The drinks were very good and they were quite generous with whatever you wanted.

The piano bar was quiet the week we were there. Not many people showed up to do the sing along which was really too bad. The piano player was Everett Thomas and he is EXCELLENT. Very talented pianist and was a joy to listen too. He also plays during dinner in the pastafari room.

The staff at Breezes is very nice. They speak many languages. Spanish, Portuguese, Papiamento, Dutch and English. It is amazing how they can switch back and forth between all these languages.

Check in can be a slow process, so have a rum punch and just wait it out. There are only a couple of people on the front desk at a time and this can be a bottleneck. For check out, plan ahead and check out early before the rush. You can still keep your room key and all-inclusive bracelet. You just have to give up the towel cards and the safe key. You have to be out of the room by noon. For a noon transfer to the airport they want your luggage outside your room by 10am. They collect it and put it in a luggage room so all is safe and you don’t have to worry about it.

The rooms: we had room 2407 in the Royal Towers. This room was on the 4th floor over looking the circus area, pools, beach and the beautiful sea. The room was large with a king bed, love seat, soft large chair, round table and two chairs, desk, TV two night stands and still lots of room to move around. The patio was large as well with a round table and two lawn chairs and a free standing towel rack very convenient for drying all the wet things.

The bathroom at least in this room was in serious need of updating. The marble sink was all cracked and the tub discolored from age and use. It was always kept clean but they need to replace these basics. This was the only down side of the room otherwise it was excellent and we would take that room again without hesitation.

The management is very visible and always around for you if you have any concerns or needs. We had none and our week there was excellent.

Activities: They have all the usual things available without charge. Waterfront, catamarans, sea kayaks, snorkel equipment, all readily available. No motorized water sports on property. Plenty of shade available and ample supply of beach lounge chairs. Large beach area, very clean and pleasant. You will need water shoes due to the coral sand. There is a lot of coral in the sea that is smoothed over from the years of sea activity and it is dead but you still have to walk on it and tender feet will appreciate water shoes. They have activities all day long. There is a resident band during the dinner hours and than show time is either Kareoke or dance contest or something put on by the entertainment staff. They did not bring in any outside talent. We did miss this. It is nice to have the outside cabaret entertainment. We never went to the disco so cannot comment on that one but they do open it to the teens from 10 to 11Pm or so and than the adults get it for the rest of the night.

Weather: The weather is perfect this time of year. It is hot with a nice sea breeze. The water temperature is cool enough to refresh but not cold, you can walk right in and stay in forever. It was great. Very clean and beautiful.

Any ?’s just email us and we’ll be glad to answer. We have lots of pictures of Curacao and can share if you email us. We did spend a day on Bonaire also and have pictures from there as well. Cheryl & Richard, CT USA
