Sol Club Cayo Guillermo 08/22/2003
Reviewers Rating: Great
Just came back from a 2 weeks vacation at Sol Club Cay Guillermo. Even though I landed back home on Monday early morning, my mind is still very much in Cayo Guillermo right now!
Flight: We took the Skyservice flight, no delay. ButI was disappointed in their on-flight food. The fligh going there they served us COLD sandwhiches in a box with a cold cookie. The flight back to Toronto (depart from Cayo Coco at 10:00 pm), we got COLD chicken wraps and cold cookies..... I remember last year I went to Cayo Guillermo, they at least served a decent hot pasta meal. We arrived at Cayo Coco airport at about 9:15pm.
Way to Hotel:
Because my boyfriend and I were the only 2 guests going to Sol Club Cayo Guillermo, so our rep from Alba tour arranged a taxi to drive us into the island. Because it's already dark, we didn't see much of the scenery. REMEMBER: if your flight arrive late, put on insect replellant beforehand! My boyfriend did do that, and he got 5 mosquito bites during the short time we check-in.
Hotel Room:
Our room was 521, it's on the 2nd floor of a bungalow very near the beach. It's a magnificent room with high wood ceiling. The room was in blue color with a king size bed. I have absolutely no complain about the location and the tidiness of the room. The washroom has a shower only, but that's more than enough for us. (We never use bath tub other than the one at home!)
Food:
We arrived at 10:00 pm, and the buffet restaurant has already closed. We were given advice to go to the cafe where there are snacks. We found out the snacks were grilled sandwhiches made right in front of you. These were the best grilled sandwhiches we ever tasted. Because I'm a vegetarian, I only have a filling of chese and some tomatos and cucumber, but it was heavenly! Throughout our stay, we mostly had our lunch at the Beach Grill, where they have very good thin pizzas and my boyfriend was having either the pizzas or the Creo Chicken with black bean rice and fried plantein. For dinner, we went to the buffet restaurant. The food was not the best, and it's mostly catered for meat-eaters.... I was most happy that later in the 2nd week, they have these huge mangos. Do try the tortilla!
Beach: The tides were pretty high during our stay, so the beach was just a long strip of sand, but it's amazing that how many fishes there were so close to the beach. Every day my boyfriend and I brought out two dinner rolls to feed the fishes. At one point there were about close to 150 fishes swimming around our legs. There were smaller, paler angel fishes, needle fishes etc.
I might going back, but I will try Melia Cayo Guillermo though.
