    Iberostar Tainos 09/28/2003
    Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just came back from one week in Varadero. We enjoyed a gorgeous beach and a truly summer weather. We'll never forget the excellent food at Tainos and its fantastic presentation and display at the buffet restaurant. It didn't look like your typical buffet restaurant; it was more like a banquet hall. Also, the nightly show at the Cafe Bar was professionally done--there is no difference between these shows and the ones you see on TV or are presented at a theather elsewhere. They have a great singer, excellent dancers, and a variety of special effects every night. Finally, there was this amazing Mini Club (kid's program) leader named Ariadne. She was so cheerful and entertaining that my daughter would miss any other thing but the time at the Mini Club. She still misses her club leader.

Elevators break down often. The main elevator broke down the day we arrived and, as we learned later, people got trapped inside for sometime. The next day, the elevator was down again so we decided to use the stairs and avoid taking the elevator whenever possible. The third day, I was going down to the lobby with my baby to meet some relatives, and jumped into the elevator since it was right on my floor. It broke in between two floors and stayed trapped there with six other people for over 30 minutes. It was HOT and HUMID! My baby, who suffers from asthma, was about to pass out--thanks God he survived the ordeal. Hotel personnel/technicians didn't communicate with us during this time as expected, e.g., the receptionist wasn't willing to pass on a message to my wife letting her know of my situation; I had to insist on my request until she did it. Also, the technicians didn't seem to know how to fix the problem. After more than half an hour, the technicians told us that a compressor broke down and that they were trying to fix it but didn't know how long it would take--fixing a compressor with people and a baby trapped inside!!! Finally, following our requests and suggestions, the technicians forced the doors open and let us climb out to safety. I learned the lesson: we never took again the elevator during our staying at this hotel.
