Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Antigua & Barbuda
Royal Antiguan 02/13/02
Reviewers Rating: Fair
This resort has a lot of potential. The grounds were pretty and well-cared for. The lagoon/bay/ocean view is very chariming. The hotel beach was pretty although it got very crowded with hotel guests and many, many beach vendors. The food at this resort leaves a lot to be desired both in quality and choice. We thought the food was fair to average. The service at this place whether guest service, table service or buffet style was barely civil to rude. It seemed to depend on the individual. we got the impression that the staff was not happy working here. We had long waits for simple requests like a spoon, a napkin or a coffee carafe...It seemed to us that they just didn't have enough for all the guests. The rooms were below standard (we actually had three rooms before we got one that was in working order). Since we have traveled a lot in the Caribbean and stayed in other moderate hotels, we knew not to expect anything special. Our disappointment with the rooms had more to do with the lack of upkeep than the dated/worn furnishings. Some examples: the furniture was mildewed, the bed pillows were completely worn out and very lumpy, the ceilings were stained and mildewed in spots, the walls needed painting, the bedlamps were covered with dust and rust, the lampshades were speckled with stains and mildewed, the towels were stained and threadbare and the patio screens were ripped. The closet space was large but there weren't enough hangers for two people. The room was cleaned daily and we had no complaints with that. The pool area was okay. If you stay here you'll need a car or taxi to get around as this hotel is not near anything.
