My husband and I went to the Royal Antiguan for our honeymoon in June, 1997. We are leaving for Cuba next month and I was looking for some information about the hotel we will be staying at in Cuba when I came upon this review page. I decided to read the reviews about the Royal Antiguan to see what people had to say. We loved the resort, people, food and the beach. We found the locals to be quite friendly and helpful. We were at no time treated poorly by anyone at the resort or when we went into town. I have to admit that we did go to Antigua 5 years ago but, we did really enjoy ourselves and want to return some day. The room was nice and it was cleaned everyday. Nothing was ever stolen out of our room. While we were at the Royal Antiguan we did see a bartender being treated like she was a second class citizen by one of the guests. She handled herself with dignity and grace. I can't say the same for the man who tried to humiliate her because he couldn't get his drink fast enough (she was in the middle of serving someone else and the man had obviously had way too much anyhow) The only complaint about the whole trip that we had was about the airline. And that is not a reflection on the hotel at all. I am quite surprised that all of the reviews I have read were that bad. I feel bad for the people who had those terrible experiences, however, I can honestly say that it was a wonderful experience for us and would recommend the hotel to anyone interested in going to Antigua. By the way, we did NOT see any critters in the room or in the restaurants.Melanie Vancouver, BC
