Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Antigua & Barbuda
Rex Halcyon Cove 08/15/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
We had a good value-for-money stay at the Rex. We found the staff very friendly (as was everyone on the Island), the Poolside Room clean and comfortable and the food sufficiently varied and meeting the hotel's level. The beach and sea were excellent, and beach vendors took no for an answer without problems. We also found the taxi drivers associated with the hotel to provide a good and reliable service. Our travel company rated the hotel ***+ which I agree with. Going with that expectation we had a great holiday.Antigua itself was a good destination, espcially during carnival. I'd recommend Shirley Heights on a Sunday, a trip to Barbuda and any of the carnival (last week July/first week August) you can get to. Whilst we didn't hire a car other people did and found it easy to drive around and see things. I agree with other comments that the resort is a little tired in appearance, and we found that the standard and superior rooms (which we had booked into) were really ** in style, so we upgraded to the poolside, which was fine. The food was reasonable buffet (with the option to use their Warri Pier restaurant with subsidy), but could have done with more fresh fruit and local food - especially at lunchtime.
