Great
We stayed at the Jolly Beach from 28 Aug to 31 Aug 2002 and had an enjoyable time. We came from another Caribbean island and so really came to get away. This reveiw is based on our experience which may not be the typical tourist review. The room was quite small but had all the amenities we needed - a/c, toilet, shower, ceiling fan TV with cable and safe. There is a returnable US$20 deposit for the safe, and a rental charge of US$4 per night. The room was on the ground floor but there was no noise either from the porch or the entrance.
The meals provided were quite filling, if a little bland but should satisfy foreign tasets rather than Caribbean palates. There is always fresh friut and a selection of meat (chicken, fish, beef) for lunch and dinner, and the breakfasts are very extensive. They had the best bacon I've ever tasted.
The staff are very friendly and made the effort to smile and even look directly at you when talking. The main complaint I have is that the beach activities are invaded by beach touts who have every legal right to be there as there are no private beaches in Antigua. We played a game of beach volleyball which was really a show of bravado by locals who had no time or patience to play with the locals.
Apart from this a good getaway for a reasonable price.
