Royal Antiguan Resort
04/28/2009
Reviewers Rating: Fair
This property is extremely gorgeous, but poorly managed. We checked in on February 3, 2009. The room we were given was a Mountain View room with no balcony. We asked to purchase a room with a balcony and were told that they were booked up. The growns were deserted and no one was in the dining room, so we had a hard time understanding this. When we inquired as to how many rooms were occupied we were told 20 of the 257 available. We were informed that because we were staying 12 days they could not put us in another room as the Cricket team was coming in 10 days and needed the balcony rooms for them. They would not move us when the team came, so we were left to stay in the assigned room. The meals were basic. The menu had 5 items on it and they were out of one of the 5 every evening. This improved slightly when the Cricket teams checked in. We still paid the same rate for all 12 days. Hot water for showers required that we run the water for 30 minutes before the hot water came. One day the water was brown and the water system was turned off for that day. When the Cricket teams checked in the water problem improved as did the menu, however we paid the same amount for each of the 12 days we were there. Until the Cricket team came there was no place to purchase sundries. Once they checked in the boutique opened. The ride to shopping cost $15 US, as it was a ways into a populated area. The beach is fantastic for sunning and swimming. The staff is very personable and accomodating where they could be.
