Anguilla Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
La Sirena 03/06/2003
Reviewers Rating: Great
La Sirena, at the West end of Meads Bay, is a gem. On a resort isnald developing a reputation for upscale accommodations, its nice to still see a reasonably-priced hotel that is warm and friendly.
We stayed in a junior suite, a large 2-story room with a magnificent view of Meads Bay from our upper bedroom balcony and the lush gardens from the patio on the main level.
The beach is a brief couple of minutes down a sandy path, but you're still closed enough to sleep with the relaxing surf and wave sounds coming in the windows. There is A/C if you have a sticky night, but we only used it twice in two weeks, good breezes move across the island most of the time and especially at the beach.
La Sirena has lounge chairs, umbrellas, cushions, towels, etc on Meads Bay. We could smile and look across the curve of the Bay at the folks paying five times as much for no bigger room and the same sun and sand.
There is a restaurant, with good service and decent food reasonably priced. Breakfast is especially good, if for no other reason than it makes you get up and moving early! Its not gourmet, more hearty fare, but friendly and with a very nice bar.
This is a small family owned hotel, the owners and their family came from Switzerland but have lived there and run the hotel for almost 15-years.
The grounds and gardens are lush and mature with bougainvillea, palm trees and other tropical plants. There are two large freshwater swimming pools with patio areas.
The government does not allow car rentals at the airport on arrival, so we use the hotel desk to arrange delivery of our car the morning after arrival (no additional charge).
La Sirena has a very nice niche in pricing, service, and accommodations, it's close to upscale but at mid-price levels especially with some of the specials and off-season deals most of the year. Check out the website, www.la-sirena.com, for pictures and package deals, if you're a little bit adaptable for the bargain pricing you'll love it!
