Hotel Reviews: Aruba
Radisson 07/03/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Trip report 6/18-6/24.
The Radisson is spectacular! The pools/grounds are very well maintained and are definitely the largest on Palm Beach. We had a gardenview room in the Aruba Tower (1312) that was very pretty and quite spacious. Note that the band playing until 10:30 every evening is pretty loud. Not a nuisance, but if you want quiet, then another Tower would be best. I requested a refrigerator when checking in which they delivered to our room along with our luggage. Went to the grocery store (Ling and Sons) on Monday and bought bread, meat, fruit, beer (around $33 for a case of Bud Lite), soda. Also bought snacks, a bottle of coconut rum and Dole pineapple/Orange/Banana juice to make my own drinks (brought the insulated mugs, huggies/coolie cups, collapsible cooler which really worked out great). Restaurants: I had a list with me of 25 places to eat and they all sounded fabulous...but we only made it to a few (we'll just have to return to try more)! Amici: A short walk from the hotel; wonderful croissants and pastries. Didn't have the chance to try the ice cream. Black Hog Saloon: We went to the BBQ bash which was tasty. The kids had a great time on the paddle boats and with putt-putt (our one night-time activity). Trattoria da Vittorio: Delicious Italian food; staff very friendly; a short walk from the hotel. Really good. Texas de Brazil: What an experience! We all enjoyed this... with the variety of meats, you can't miss! Buccaneer: Another family recommended this. It was OK, very different array of foods that accompany the main course. Boonoonoonoos: A late lunch while shopping on Saturday. I tried callaloo soup (creamy clam/scallop chowder with spinach) that was great. Very colorful Caribbean type atmosphere. Glad we found this place. Sunset Grille at the Radisson: Saved this for our last evening. Wonderful, wonderful. A true gem. Activities: My husband took the kids out to jet ski ($100 for an hour). They all had fun (I sunned on the dock with one of the kids while the other was out with their Dad). We also did the "sunset on the beach" horseback ride with Rancho Notorious. We laughed alot and the scenery was lovely; just long enough (ow!). The champagne morning snorkel on the Octopus was a treat (I like to go out on the smaller catamaran's/trimaran's as versus the larger boats for a bit more personal attention). The breakfast of breads/muffins and salad/sandwiches at lunch hit the spot. Another fun experience for everyone. Radisson: -The internet access in the lobby was an added plus for me. I walked the beach very early every morning so I always had the chance to check/write email home. -The grounds are very lush (just what you want/expect in a tropical vacation), and the birds in the trees added to the tropical ambience. -The staff was very helpful/friendly with any request, and always seemed to be smiling. -the ocean was calm (great for little ones to frolic). Aruba is beautiful, safe (everywhere), and a destination that I would highly recommend to both families and couples. Having been on several cruises, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands, I would definitely return to Aruba as it is truly "one happy island".
