Holiday Inn Sunspree Resort and Casino Aruba Beach
11/30/2004
Reviewers Rating: Great
We visited the Holiday Inn from October 17 - 24, 2004. I am pleased to say that we had a great holiday. We were there about a week before this period of rain began. The weather was a bit unsettled but sunny enough that we came home "glowing". We booked the AI plan simply because the price could not be beat. I could not have booked flight and hotel cheaper than the price offered for the AI so we booked it and used it discriminately. We certainly enjoyed drinks during the day and lunch at the beachside restaurant for convenience sake. We had 3 dinners at the theme buffet and then ventured out other nights because we had a car. We tried Tony Romas and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Flying Fishbone was fantasic. The food is of very high quality and is different than expected. Different but delicious. Dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine, appetizers (we selected the 2 most expensive on the menu keep in mind), lobster and tenderloin for the mains, creme brulee and a few cocktails each cost $ 170 US with tip. Also checked out the Italian Restaurant in Orangestad on the water (cannot remember the name) and found it mediocre. The fish soup however was the best I have tasted. Yes, Palm Beach is busy, but there is something I really like about it. I have travelled alot throughout the islands and understand that the water clarity has been sacrificed due to motorized boats and the number of people etc on the beach but ...there is still something spectacular about Palm Beach! It is stunning to look at from the piers and from one end to the other. Baby Beach and Rogers Beach are not the same as they were years ago. In my opinion they suffered tremendously from the hurricanes. Rogers Beach is non-existent and Baby Beach did not look as inviting to me as it has in previous years. We spent 2 of our days at Arashi Beach across from the California Lighthouse. Packed a cooler and had 2 great days there. The water is glorious and you can get away from the crowds. Truly spectacular. The Holiday Inn itself is a decent hotel that sits on a great part of Palm Beach. We found no reason to complain and would return in a heartbeat. The original pool had completed it's constuction phase while we were there and the additional pool was/is still being built. We were not bothered by this at all because we knew of the status prior to booking. I went in the pool once on the last day. My understanding from another poster is that hallways and rooms are in the process of being painted so be prepared for ongoing work as they progress to improve.
