Club Rockley Barbados 08/29/01
Reviewers Rating: Great
Having read other opinions of the resort just prior to the beginning of my holiday, I was unsure what to expect. Some of the comments of previous travellers ranged from the staff being rude to the rooms being in desperate need of a overhaul. We had absolutely no need to worry, the resort was spotless and well maintained, the staff were ever helpful and very friendly and the rooms were exactly as they are shown in the brochure. Because the resort is so large, the hotel operate a golf buggy service to ferry residents around the complex, these carts are often carrying people around the complex, but if not a call to reception is enough to have one despatched. We stayed in the Orange Hills part of the complex, which although a 6-7minute walk from the complex centre and main restaurant was a good choice. The rooms as slightly smaller than the rooms at the centre, but the views are pleasant and the cluster pool has a swim up bar and lunchtime buffet restaurant. The pool is popular, but our party went to sit at the pool sometimes as late as 10am and were the only people there, there was absolutley no greedy lounger allocating by towels which was refreshing. The staff at the resort were always keen to help and very friendly, special mention to Chester, Vernon and Cherri who contributed to the success of our holiday.
There are 5 restaurants at the complex, including 2 a'la cartes (which are at no extra cost) although they are not all open at the same time. The Out of bounds (pub grub) and the Orange Hills pool buffet provide lunchtime snacks. Wheras the cloud 9 (main restaurant) provides a pleasant breakfast and buffet lunch (generally 6 varieties of main course). The 2 a'la carte restaurants (Clubhouse and Sugar Reef) provide a good menu and a touch of class. Our favourite was the Sugar Reef as it is situated right on the Accra beach and provided a fantastic moonlight atmosphere.
All in all, Club Rockley is definately worth considering if you are looking for a holiday in the carribean that can provide you with a variety of daytime activities if that's what you're looking for. The only negative we found was that the evening entertainment operated on a weekly basis, meaning by the second week we had already seem all the bands before. This is the only reason I haven't rated the resort with 4 stars.
