Cobblers Cove is a member of the Relais and Chateaux hotel group, one of only half a dozen or so in the entire Caribbean, so that should give prospective guests a good idea of what to expect. I found the staff to be exceedingly knowledgable, accommodating and courteous, if a bit reserved at first. They made several terrific suggestions for some sightseeing and dining out experiences.
Each of the rooms at Cobblers is actually a large suite. They are all spacious, but the rooms on the second floor are more attractive with their high ceilings. All rooms have a private balcony or porch, a sitting area, and a kitchenette, and the bedrooms can be shut off and air conditioned if one so desires.
The food at the restaurant was outstanding. Breakfast always featured their regular menu as well as one daily special. The restaurant is right on the water's edge and quite beautiful. Dinner can be ordered a la carte or by a prix-fixe menu, both of which were delicious. The bar has a vast repetoire of fun umbrella-type drinks as well as a good wine list. Dinner protocol was unusual but good--when you arrive for dinner, you are seated in the bar's lounge, where the waiter takes your drink order and leaves you a menu. When he comes back with your drinks, he also has a plate of hot hors d'oeuvres for you and takes your order. That leaves you to sit back and enjoy your drink and the hors d'oeuvres. When the first course of your meal is ready, your are seated for dinner and immediately served. The waitstaff service was impeccable.
The beach, which is situated a few steps away from the official grounds of the hotel, was beautiful, but for some reason most of the guests preferred to sun by the pool or on the grounds, though the hotel does provide umbrellas and lounges on the beach for its guests. Swimming was better than the snorkeling because the reef just a few strokes off shore was a little dull. The beach is about 1/2 mile long and fairly secluded, as most of the beachfront consisted of private villas which were unoccupied during my visit.
Cobblers Cove was comfortable, elegant without being fussy, and very relaxed. I definitely recommend it to anyone who seeks quieter pursuits over vigorous activity and who values the simple pleasures of good food, lovely landscaping, and beautiful sunsets.
