Barbados Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Sea-U Guesthouse 02/27/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
It was like a dream.
The Guesthouse was perched on the side of a hill surrounded by lush vegetation and palm trees. Guests can enjoy lying in a hammock with their eyes closed, hear the endless roar of the surf at the bottom of the hill and feel the omnipresent Atlantic breeze rustling the trees. And through the leaves - the sun.
Breakfast and dinner were served outside, under cover and screened from the wind. As I ate, I saw a Green Monkey in a tree. A Lesser Antillean Bullfinch peeked his head under the linen covering the freshly baked coconut and banana bread. The resident cat wandered on the deck.
Seacat, one of the original Bathsheba surfers, works as the gardener here. He was friendly, smiling and talkative. Later in the afternoon, he cracked open a coconut for me. I drank the milk and ate the jelly.
The house was unusual in Bathsheba as it was constructed of wood, weathering nicely from the ocean breeze. Adjustable wood jalousies allowed cross ventilation to penetrate the rooms. A ceiling fan ensured nighttime comfort. A mosquito net covered the bed, although few bugs were apparent.
The nearby restaurants were all good. From the storied Atlantis Hotel to the more sophisticated Round House, none were disappointing.
The beach was spectacular. Giant rocks littered the shoreline, eroded at the bottom by the constant wave action. At low tide the relentless surf backed off to reveal the shoreline reef and sand bottomed tidal pools were exposed for soaking and splashing.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
