Barbados Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Kings Beach Hotel 03/03/2005
Reviewers Rating: Fair
We read through some of the reviews on this site before we left and decided to go with an open mind. We have just gotten home, and personally I wouldn't go back to this hotel. There are pros and cons, the main cons being the distinct lack of beach (it was apparently washed away at the start of this year, and the result has left about 8'-10' of sand behind the hotel, then a drop down to some more sand (depending on whether tide is in or out), at which point you hit the VERY stoney sea. The beach also has a number of palm trees with their roots clearly on display. However, a small walk left or right of the hotel and fine sandy beaches with rock free entries into the sea are abundant. Mealtimes also caused us a problem, but this was probably heightened by the fact that we had our toddler with us. No room service or facilities to get a snack in-between mealtimes means going off site to buy something....hardly all-inclusive. Meals/drinks will NOT be served outside of the stated times. Breakfast at 7:30 means 7:30 and not 7:28!! Equally, a coke at 10:00am will come at 10:00am and NOT 9.57, as we and other guests found out. What's more, the foundation of this all-inclusive package is your white wristband. When my wife, son and I turned up for dinner (at the alloted time which must be chosen when you seat for breakfast) only I had my wristband on. They flatly refused to serve my wife dinner until she went back to her room and got her band. I aired my grievances and, needless to say, from that point on our stay was not made a pleasure by certain staff; dirty looks, unwilliningness to be supportive until our departure, such a shame. By the way, make sure you wear the wristband on your wrist, we witnessed a guy who was refused a drink because he was holding his wristband. They made him slide it onto his wrist!! As far as meals go, make the most of any buffet offerings (breakfast daily and 2/3 evenings per week) as the a-la-carte, whilst great quality, left us almost as hungry after as before. The portions are tiny.....get in as much of the bread offerings as you can to supplement the dishes. As for families, I would definitlely advise against taking under 4/5 year olds here. There is no toddler pool (we resorted to entertaining our son on the pool steps), and no sign of children's entertainment. Ever the optimists, we decided to put this behind us and stay positive, but numerous other guests raised similar issues. On the positive side, being a small resort, you can easily make friends here with other guests and some of the very friendly staff. There are also no worries about queuing at the bar, or for breakfast/dinner. We only stayed 5 nights, and were ready to go home by the end.
