Costa Rica Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Paradisus Playa Conchal 08/17/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just returned from our trip from Costa Rica! August 13, 2004
It was a fabulous vacation. The one down fall was that we only stayed 4 nights!!!!
The other reviews from this website were studied before we left, and very helpful!
Every aspect of the vacation went smoothly. Arrival into the Liberia airport was well organized. One thing that I wasn't prepared for, was the heat! Dress appropriately!!!! I wore light weight clothing, but was still uncomfortable! It was very HOT in the airport, but the line through customs went fairly quickly. The bus to the hotel was easy to find (this is a VERY little airport)! The review that I read, said that there was a huge bus, with great air conditioning, that took them on to the hotel. We did NOT have that huge, comfortable bus take us! The ride to the hotel, was not great - a full bus, a small bus, the air didn't cool completely, and it was quite bumpy! Let's just say, I was very ready to arrive to the hotel. (Now, on the way back to the airport, we did have the larger, more comfortable bus!) The other review said that checking in went very quickly....our's did not. They only had 3 people working the desk, and we were not asked to fill out any paperwork on the bus?It wasn't bad, but again it was HOT and we were very tired!
The rooms are GREAT! I did not see the 2nd floor rooms, which another reviewer recommended, but our first floor room was fine! They are huge rooms, and very comfortable. I did not think that they were too cold, like another reviewer suggested???
We ordered room service the first night, because we were exhausted from the trip down. The room service was adequate! All of the employees were very pleasant, and eager to please! The restaurants were very good! The routine for getting reservations to the fancier, sit down restaurants was a pain. At breakfast, 8 o'clock, they begin a line to make reservations. The line was very long....people started getting into line at 7:30!!!!! But if you are flexible about, where to eat and when, I would suggest waiting and going around 8:30 - 9. The line is gone, and we got a reservation both times that we used this technique. One of the other reviewers said that you did not need reservations. That was not our experience. The main buffet, was very good for breakfast but we did not eat dinner there. We ate at the Bucanier one night which was very good. We liked the snack bar!!!! The pizzas were great! So, we ate a larger type meal at the lunch buffet, and then had a light dinner at the snack bar! You will not go hungry at this resort!!!!!
The beach at the resort was beautiful!!! I loved walking on the beach and swimming was great too! We did borrow the snorkle gear from the hotel, and did snorkle to the far right side, where the rocks are! It was great! I might suggest that if you are going to do alot of snorkling over there, taking water shoes!!!!!! The rocks are sharp, and walking on the beach over to the rocks is shelly!!!! I would highly recommend you do the snorkling! I wish that I had had the time to do that every day!!!
We did use some of the vendors that were right by the exit to the beach! I had a GREAT massage in the little hut "Swedish Massage" under the trees, by "Omar"! It was great, and half the price as the resort!!! We also hired a fishing boat, the Angelica II, for a half day of deep sea fishing! It was much less expensive than the resort, and it was a great way to get to know the natives. We had two young men, 21 and 17, that took us for a half day out to Catalina Island....the big rocks that you see in the horizon from the beach. We caught 2 keepers, and they filleted them for us, but we didn't take the fillets with us. We let them keep them!
We also did 2 other excursions out of the resort!!! The sunset cruise, which is free of charge, was GREAT!!!! We saw a beautiful sunset, and also a couple of whales and sea turtles! The Congo Canopy tour was a lot of fun. That tour cost $44/person. I just wish that we had been able to see more wildlife!!! Next time!!!!
I would highly recommend this resort and country. I am already making plans to return, but this time I am planning on staying longer!!!!
Any questions, e-mail me!

Michele
