Barcelo Maya Beach Resort 02/26/01

For a job well done my company sent 11 employees and spouses to Barcelo Maya Beach Resort. The facilities were spectacular! The rooms very nice, the staff friendly and accomodating. The pools are clean and huge! The beach was perfect. Unfortunately, we have two complaints: 1. To get drinks, or to participate in activities we had to stand in line. The length varied from none to excruciating, but we felt in that regard we could have been better accomodated. 2. The food was not very good. At the buffets you could usually find something you like, since there was good variety, but the "premium" restaurants were only premium because you had full service. The food was not any better (maybe worse since there was not as much selection) than the buffets and the service was so-so. Even worse 7 people out of the 22 that went got sick (diareha and vomitting) not from Montezuma's Revenge, but from apparently eating spoiled food. We are letting the travel agency and Barcelo know our problems and I will post a follow-up of their response.
Although everything else was excellent, I can't recommend this place because of the food.
