Iberostar Paraiso del Mar, and Beach Hotel 11/15/01

My husband and I went to this resort April 2001 and had a wonderful time. The hotels are on two separate sides: 'del Mar' and 'Beach', but share common ammenities. Rooms on the Beach side are a bit nicer but overall, everything was very clean with good housekeeping. We found the staff friendly and professional without being too much 'in your face' - that is nobody dragging you into the pool for aerobics. All were inviting and encouraging with their activities. The gym and spa are quite decent with their space and equipment. The property itself is large and long so you don't want to forget something in your hotel room or it could be a 10-15 minute walk back to get it. There is quiet undisturbed jungle on either side of the resort. The quality of the food was very good and always plentifull but we did see flies around on occassion. The bar service was also very good, there was a selection of domestic and some international liquors-no Crown Royal of Motts Clamato j! uice but plenty of Havana 5 year Rum and quality scotch! They also provide a free shuttle to take you into Playa del Carmen that went in frequently and daily. This amounts to a savings of about $15US one way by taxi. The pool was massive and winding so that you actually cannot see from the beginning of one end to the other, with plenty of space for lounge chairs and palapas. There was no real need to wake up early and reserve a choice spot. Same goes for the beach area as well. All in all, it was a great vacation and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Here's a tip if you go- if you use up all your ala-carte dinner tickets (you get 3 for 7 nights of stay), you can still make reservations in the ala-carte restaurants on the day you want to go after 1100 hours.(Review originally submitted on April 19, 2001)
