Hotel & Resort Reviews:
Cancún & Cozumel
copacabana at maya riviera 12/29/01
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Stayed at the Copacabana in the Mayan Riviera area Sept. 15-22. Small resort but we thoroughly enjoyed it. Buffet style food with a different theme every night. Food is okay, we just found different things we really liked and stuck with those. They make a wonderful different salad every evening with a homemade dressing and have their own bake staff so pastries, breads etc are outstanding. (had to wear my jogging suit home!) The facility is very new so everything is spotlessly clean. Pool area is a small walk away from the lobby but after all that buffet food it is good for you and you walk along a stone walkway through the jungle where its very peaceful, beautifully landscaped and lots of wildlife (small) to see. Pool was exceptionally nice (just one) and ther's an open air restaurant and bar right there. You have to get up and get your own drinks no wait service. Beach was fabulous!! Nicest water and whitest sand. We walked along the beach every day and don't think any of the other resorts even came close to ours. Warm and clear and full of these almost see-through fish (look like angel fish?) that gather around you like seagulls waiting to be fed. The only thing I didn't like about this place was the view. Our room was above the jungle-like walkway and all we saw was a canopy of tree limbs and blue sky.We rented a volkswagon and drove to cancun for shopping and sightseeing one day. Went to Xcaret another day and enjoyed that too. Took hotel bus to La Playa and loved the village atmosphere. (Next time we think we'll find a resort, maybe RUI Palace, to stay so we can walk to La Playa every day.) All said, we would recommend the copacabana! Teri from Canada
