Hotel & Resort Reviews: Cancún & Cozumel
Oasis Playa 02/02/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
This was the nicest place I have ever stayed at in Cancun (been 3 times, tried a different place each time). The beach was great, the buffet was great, the rooms were great - ours was facing the water, and had a hot tub on the balcony. It's a fair trip into town from there. The entertainment nights were mostly great, two nights were hosted at the main Oasis Hotel down the road, and were absolutely fabulous! Very fancy, with cloth tablecloths and napkins, and very attentive waiters - and this was all included- You will want to leave a very nice tip at the end of the evening. The last entertainment night was at the Oasis Playa itself, and it was quite disappointing compared to the first two. You have to reserve for these - make sure you do!

The lobby of the hotel is beautiful, you look out the huge windows on the sea side and just see that soothing carribean blue. Good size waves, for those who like bobbing in the surf.

It's rather quite at night there, but they do have a poolside bar that's open till 2am, and often have musical entertainment. The only really disappointing thing was the a la carte restaurants - (you can only use them 3 times) the food was not as good as the buffet, and for a steak or anything else special, you had to pay a surcharge. (we didn't try them, maybe that's why we were disappointed). We tried the Italian rest. one night, and the Mexican another night, then we decided that all the rest of our suppers would be in the cafeteria, which didn't have a great ambiance like the restaurants, but the food made up for it. Bring lots of suntan lotion, wear #30 the first 2 days, then go down to 15 - We did spend all of the afternoons on the beach. The hotel offers a catamarin trip to Isla Mulhares for about $25 US - and it was a great outing, worth every penny. You get to go over to the island, snorkel before landing, lunch in town, and then have a great sail along the island and then cross over to the hotel strip at the end. All the while the crew offers you beer and tequila for free - they bring out the tip bottle at the end (to be expected) but they DO show you a great time - and they got some great tips. I LOVED the whole week, would go there again!
