Hotel & Resort Reviews: Cancún & Cozumel
Casa Mexicana 02/04/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just returned from a beautiful stay at the Casa Mexicana right next to the beach in San Miguel. The hotel itself is fairly new--built in l998. One thing that was different is that when you are dropped off at the hotel, you actually take the escalator up to the second level (the main level is a retail business). The hotel staff are VERY accomodating--check-in was quick. We were taken to our room by Antonio, our personal concierge who looked after us the entire time we were there. The units themselves are arranged in a "U" shape with lots of units having ocean views. Ammenities in the room included really nice furniture (desk/table with phone hook-up and free internet service, a unit which housed the color TV and small refrigerator, a king size bed, night stands in-room safe, air-conditioning, and a patio door with balcony. The room had tile on the floor and very nice lighting. The bathroom was also very nicely tiled and had a hair dryer!

The very best part is that each morning, from 7 until 10, you could go down to the patio for their yummy breakfast. The setting is very relaxing and the staff was very attentive, making sure you had enough coffee, juice, etc and that you enjoyed your breakfast.... fresh fruit, cereal, freshly squeezed orange juice, wonderful pastries, and of course, the hot buffet: refried beans, potatoes, bacon, sausage and then your made-to-order eggs (you put into a bowl what you wanted in your omelette; they prepared it there and brought it to the table when it was finished.)

At the top of the escalator is the lobby for the hotel. It has the desk where you check in and the elevator up to the other 5 floors. It also has the swimming pool. It's just a small "cooling off" pool with very relaxing lounge chairs on a nice balcony that overlooks the ocean. The patio is shaded most of the day except from about l0am until 3 which was perfect for getting some sun. In the evening we would sit in the comfortable "conversation" area where they have a small bar where you could order a drink if you wanted.

The best thing is that the rates were VERY reasonable and it's right next to the AquaSafari Dive Shop and their pier. On the other side is the brand new Plaza that just opened up (Carlos and Charlies, Senor Frogs, and many upscale shops---VERY nice !! ).

If you choose to stay at the Casa Mexicana, you will LOVE everything about your stay--your room, the breakfast, the wonderful staff and the location! !

If anyone has any questions, please feel free to email me. Diane
