In mid-April we went spent 3 nights/4 days at Moon Palace in Cancun. The weather was fabulous, the pool beautiful, the resort huge. We had several problems: 1. we requested a non-smoking room - we were not told until the issue was raised at the front desk that the non-smoking rooms are in the back of the complex - ie furthest away from the pool and ocean. 2. While the literature says that all rooms have a hammock on the balcony - corner rooms do not - ask first! 3. Do Not, I repeat Do Not go to the desk opposite check in - while it looks like a concierge - it is time share - stay away from them. If you happen to get caught up with them beware that they can turn very nasty.
4. If you have a problem, complain long and loud to the desk or your travel rep at the hotel. THey will not be helpful once you get back home.
The food wasn't bad, the asian restuarant was the best (no shorts allowed). Then Mexican themed restaurant was very disappointing.
The gym was a disappointment several of the treadmills were not working. The beach was being worked on - so I cannot comment what it would look like without seaweed. The pool was absolutely beautiful. Plenty of chairs and shade to go around. Best to take your own blow up float and lots of sun screen. If you need to, to call home, buy a phone card in the gift shop (or bring one from home) and use the phones on the second floor.
