Hotel & Resort Reviews: Cancún & Cozumel
Spa Aventura Palace 07/26/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Without a doubt the most perfect vacation we have ever had. We visited the Spa Aventura Palace in June 2002 with another couple (our second visit here with the same couple). The resort is an all-inclusive, adults only property. Located about 45 minutes south of main Cancun hotel strip in area known as the Mayan Riviera. Gorgeous buildings and grounds. Spacious rooms with 2 person jacuzzi tubs and very nice furnishings. Excellent beach area, protected from ocean waves, with snorkeling right off the beach. Beautiful pools, well laid out with plenty of shaded areas. Service was excellent; the only exception was that the service was a little slow in the Oriental restaurant (but the food was so good we had to visit it twice). Nice variety of different cuisines with plenty of steak, seafood and fresh fruit daily. There is even a vegetarian restaurant. As is typical of the Palace resorts, everything is so well thought out. There was so much to do here. Rockclimbing, snorkeling off the beach, kayaking, tai chi or yoga classes, world-class gym with spinning or aerobics classes, cross-current pool workout, meditating in the labyrinth, workout at the oceanside gym, roller-blading, take a ride in the horse-drawn buggy, bike tour to small town of Puerto Aventura (much recommended, Puerto Aventura is a quaint little town with a gorgeous beach (nice snorkeling off beach), dolphins and manatees to see in inlet, but be warned -the bike seats weren't very comfortable (is this a sign of getting older?) - but endure it for the 8 minute bike ride - well worth it), take a tour to Chichen-Itza or Tulum, visit another Palace Resort (shuttles offered daily) or just spend the day lazing by between the pool and beach. Then there is the world-class spa (rivaling the best ones in Miami and Palm Springs but more reasonably priced) offering all types of massages, hydrotherapy pools, wraps and assorted treatments. Also, the resort is 10 minutes from Playa Del Carmen where we caught a ferry over to Cozumel and did a snorkeling tour (worth it to pay for a tour, not on your own, the guides know exactly where to take you to the best spots). As is typical of the Palace resorts, everything is well thought out and most everything is included in the all-inclusive package (only the spa treatments and our trip to Cozumel was not). And although we had a great time the first time (July 2000), this trip exceeded our expectations as Palace just keeps improving and making everything better. We're already planning our next trip for 2004.
