We stayed at the Aquamarina Beach in April 2001 for a week. We got a very late (last minute) booking, so didn't have any choice of which hotel to go to. In the brochure, it looks very nice, and for a budget holiday, it was, but there were many little problems which would have been quite disappointing for us had this been our hotel of choice. For example, there was actually only one evening bar at the hotel -this being in the lobby - and it was definitely not even close to being big enough had everyone wanted a drink at the same time! This hotel has something like 200 rooms! Then, there is the fact that in this lobby bar there are only about 20 chairs - what about the other 380 people who want to sit down and drink?
Also, there was the problem of the facilities in the rooms (fridge, cooker, etc) - which we were shocked to have on arrival, but were soon to discover did not work!! The fridge was the only thing we wanted to use, but they never managed to fix it during our stay.
The air conditioning in the rooms only seems to work when the lights are switched on - as we discovered on the first night having switched the lights off and gone to the bar for a drink when we first arrived -we returned to a very hot room! We learned from our mistakes and left the lights on every other night, only to come back and find that the lights had attracted the mosquitos - thank god for the jungle formula!!!
All in all, this was by no means a bad holiday. I just expected Mexico to be similar to the US in its customer service standards!!
