Hotel & Resort Reviews: Cancún & Cozumel
Hotel Bahia-Principe Tulum 08/03/02
Reviewers Rating: Fair
Unbelievingly unprofessional. Management leading by bad example.

Going on holiday I am usually arranging the transport myself collecting bonus miles all over. One would expect that a simple phone call to the reservation department of a hotel would do, not at the Bahia Principe. I inquired the rate for a Junior Suite in October (long disctance call from Germany) and was given a rate of 137 US$ for 1 ppn incl. seaview but did not book until the next day. The next day they did not remember that rate but quoted 170 USD for a Junior Suite and 150 USD for a Standard room. The correct rate (as published on the hotel's home page) is 150 for the JS and 130 for a Standard room. Reservations department was not aware that there is a rate change in September and would not listen when I pointed out the published rate on the hotel's homepage. Neither was the management. I asked the Manager (a guy called Emilio Hun (or similar) and apparently assistant General Manager) why I could not book directly the published rates. He was not interested at all. Instead of trying to see into the mistake of his reservation department he asked me why I wanted to stay at the Bahia-Principe Tulum. The fact that I dared to call him and to question the booking situation was too much for him. Not that it would be any of his business but I had chosen the Bahia to be my travel destination. He suggested to complain to the head office in Spain. Accordingly I asked him for a contact and a telephone number. As a result he just hang up. After being travelling loads for business all over the world and sometimes during vacation I have never seen such impertinence and such incompetence and unprofessional behaviour. I have been reading some rewiews about this place talking about overbookings and poor organization. Now I know why I am not the only one making poor experience. If the management behaves like this what can you expect from the staff.
