Great
We just got back, so memories are still fresh. On a scale of 1-5 (low-high), the Iberostar Cozumel ranks a 4.5 overall.BEACH: Very pretty and clean with lots of room. There is no shade on the beach. You gotta' go up over the small sand dunes to get out of the sun. The swimming area is roped off and you can walk out 50-60 yards and still be in water 5-6 feet deep. If you are not fond of deep water and want to learn how to snorkel...it's the perfect place. But...if you already know what you're doing, the beach area isn't going to please you much. You're gonna' have to go someplace else if you want to see lots of fish. For $10.00 USD we spent the day at Chankanaab and REALLY got to do some snorkeling. So we rate the Iberostar beach as a 2.
FOOD/RESTAURANT: We are not huge fans of sit-down restaurants so the two buffets were perfect for us. The main buffet gets a solid 5. The "snack" buffet a good 3.5 (how much can you do with typical hamburger type food). The evening meals for all 7 days were wonderful with a very big variety of food.
SERVICE/PERSONNEL/GROUNDS/ROOMS: A definite SOLID 5!!! Anybody can greet you with a smile and tell you how happy they are to see you. But what happens to their "smile" when they are out of sight? Did they really mean it, or just trying to make you feel at home per the instructions of their supervisor? Sit back and watch how the employees interact with each other. At the Iberostar (as with most of the places we have stayed in Cancun/Playa del Carmen/Cozumel) these people really try to make your stay memorable. When they greet you...they really mean it. In the midst of a rain shower we found our rental car's windshield wipers would not work. Our rental agent at the Iberostar (Executive Car Rental) immediately gave us another car with apologies all over the place and didn't charge us for the gasoline we had used. A very pleasant person to deal with. That same evening during another rain shower, we found our 2nd floor thatch roof leaked. I called the front desk and within 5 minutes a bellboy was at our door with the key to a 1st floor room below us...and helped us move. Again...quick fix of a problem.
There were quite a few children of all ages there. The hotel staff keeps them busy and happy. They even include the kids in the nightly "Broadway Shows" at the theater. A lot of proud parents in the audience.
We wish we could rate the Iberostar Cozumel as Excellent. But if you love to snorkel swim like we do, the beach area detracts from the overall. If you don't care about that activity, then the Iberostar Cozumel IS Excellent.
Have a good time!
