Cancun & Cozumel Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Reef Club 04/14/2003
Reviewers Rating: Fair
Just back from the Reef Club. Stayed in a standard room. Nothing Special and nothing disappointing. Yes, there is a tub for showers. There are some good movie channels but few news channels in English.

The grounds are well maintained. The three pools are nice. The newer addition is pretty quiet, with the exception of the construction going on from the fire, which you will not be affected by in the least bit. The music blares by the pool all day and drowns out the construction noise.

The restaurant on the new side is very nice. The waitstaff is attentive. The atmoshere is good and food is decent. Be sure that you make reservations. There is no charge to guest in the standard rooms at this time in light of the recent fire.

Now, the restuarant buffet is EXTREMELY disappointing. Its like going to a very scaled back and cheaper version of Hometown Buffet. For example, one day they served hotdogs smothered in sauteed onions and bell peppers. On another occassion they attempted to finely mince hotdogs and pass it off as chopped ham in the salad toppings. This also occurred on two separate occasions with their breakfast omelettes. When I asked the young boy who was cooking the omelettes whether the "meat" was ham or hotdogs he just smiled. (Okay, maybe I am being a bit critical but hey, I wish I had known this prior to plucking down my hard-earned dollars at this establishment.) Also, they are too cheap to even have something as simple as soft-serve ice cream. Rather, if you want ice cream you must purchase it in the gift shop. You will not starve or anything like that, but you will be extremely bored/disappointed after 3 days or so with their variations on chicken and torillas.

In terms of water activities, you can borrow snorkeling gear, canoes, and windsurfing boards. There aren't any other non-motorized sports. Yes, there are a few jet skis available for $45 for 30 minutes. The banana boat is available for a fee.

As you probably guessed, I will not return to Reef Club and will not recommend it to my friends. IMO, you do not get what you paid for here. (I mean really, how much is bacon and real ham going to set them back financially? What about a soft-serve ice cream machine and a little better creativity on the menu?) Reef Club duhhhhhh even my college cafeteria had a soft-serve ice cream machine and knew how to spruce up a menu on a limited budget.

The last straw for me was when they attempted to sell me timeshare for their property but they failed to even show me the damn suite! Ugghhhh. Spend the extra $200 and go to a nicer resort.
