Curacao Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Superclubs Breezes Curacao 02/08/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Curacao is an island located approximately 48 miles from the coast of Venezuela. It is near the Equator so it is warm. We went at the end of January and the weather was beautiful every single day. During the day the sun is hot but it is not humid because you get such a beautiful cooling breeze that the heat does not bother you at all. During the evenings it is absolutely wonderful because it is a bit cooler and you can still wear your summer clothes because it's warm but not humid. My travel agent tells me that in the next year or so it will be just as expensive as Aruba. We got a great deal. We were honeymooners and instead of giving us a basket of fruit and champagne they upgraded our room to an oceanfront! That was very generous and gracious of them! The view was absolutely amazing! On the balcony they provide you with two lounge chairs and a wrought iron table and 2 chairs. At night we would open the patio doors so that we could hear the waves and at the same time it brought in a nice breeze. The room itself was very clean and I was very impressed with the layout. The closet in the room was a large two door and the washroom was a nice size. There were plenty of drawers in the dresser for your clothes. You don't need a hairdryer - it is supplied and it works well. There is also an iron and ironing board as well as a safe. The cleaning staff always did a great job and nothing was ever touched in our room. We left our camcorder there - nothing was taken. It was all inclusive, a scuba dive everyday, a course for it, Hobie Cat, windsurfing, snorkeling, drinks and food. The snorkeling at the resort was quite good. We got to see alot of beautiful fish but hardly any coral. You would have to go elsewhere on the island for that. The food was absolutely delicious. You have a choice of a Japanese restaurant (it was my favourite), an Italian restaurant or Jimmy's Buffet. The buffet was always good, with alot of variety and you could always ask them to make you the entree of your choice, steak, etc or for breakfast they will make you a custom omelette. The quality of the food was excellent. There were plenty of beach bars for each end of the resort. The beach itself was not very crowded and you could sit closer to where the pools and activities were or if you were in the mood for peace and quiet you could go to the other end and there was also a bar with food there. I was very impressed with all of the staff. They were always very friendly and helpful and were always smiling and were very interesting to talk to. They really enjoy it when you know or want to learn some of the key words of their native language, that being Papiamentu. You felt safe in the city to go shopping (no beggars, dirt, etc) and the water was safe to drink. The water there is the most expensive in the world because they filter the ocean water, and it tastes great! Also, it is below the hurricane belt so no worries.

Some tips: a) bring a large insulated mug for your drinks. They will pour your drinks in the mug, your drinks stay cold, you don't spill them and you don't have to go to the bar as often. The resort provides you only with small, clear, plastic glasses.

b) If you want to see the island rent a car and go see the sights on your own as opposed to going on the tours. This way you are on your own schedule. The car rental at the resort is better priced than Budget next door.

c) The Curacao liqeur is pricey since they only distill it there -they don't make it there. Buy it at the duty free at the airport in Curacao it is a bit cheaper.

d) The Ostrich Farm is definitely worth going to see.

e) If you want a beautiful, romantic dinner away from the resort try Fort Nassau in Otrabanda. The view is spectacular and the atmospher is definitely romantic!

f) We went for the "Taste of Curacao" a 90ft sailboat called the Bounty. It has two snorkelling dives and includes your lunch (very good) and drinks. It was the highlight of our trip!

Enjoy. If you have any questions please feel free to e-mail me.
