Curacao Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews
Superclubs Breezes, Curacao 03/23/2003
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
We just returned home from two glorious weeks at Breezes. We took along our 13 year old daughter who turned 14 while we were there. We have travelled extensively over the last several years and can honestly say that this resort is top on the list. Our experiences differ from the last resort review but everyone has their own opinion. Arrival: We arrived on a Saturday and were greeted by the Breezes reps and were given our wrist tags and room numbers. It did take a while to get transported to the hotel as there was a large number of us going to breezes and we were the last group to leave the airport and the bus had a flat tire so they had to send another bus...a little of a delay but not enough to spoil the day.
Resort: When we arrived at the resort we had a glass of champagne and our daughter a punch and we checked in and got our room key and safety deposit box key. We immediately went to our room which was in the tower and found that we had been upgraded to a suite with a kitchen and seperate bedroom with two tv's. We had paid for an upgrade to an oceanview and were thrilled of the extra upgrade. The room was large and we overlooked the entire pool, beach and trapeze area. We got changed and went for a walk of the grounds and found them to be very well maintained and clean. The staff were very friendly and most of them spoke english well. We came upon a teens room and there was foozball, air hockey and some games that the teens could do. My daughter and husband had a great time in there. All around there were cages with beautiful birds and some turtles. We found that further down the beach there were other swimming pools and a bar in the middle of some of the rooms. This bar serves any drink you want as well as a snack bar for food. This is a very large resort and this bar served people that were at the far end of the resort away from the activities wanting a more quiet holiday. The activities happened around the pool or on the beach just in front of the pool as well this is where you could use the watersports equipment. We used the kayaks, paddleboats and did go out on the catamaran many times and did not experience any trouble as the previous reviewer did. Our guide took as far out and was able to get us back no problem. We did however see someone that had gone out and did require the rescue boat but what had happened was that the wire on the sail of the catamaran had snapped. As soon as the guys on shore noticed that the boat could not sail they were out there immediately to ensure the safety of the people that were on the catamaran. I thought they were well experienced and always had the safety of the guests on their minds at all times. Our daughter took advantage of the rock climbing and the trapeze and had a great time. The activities staff were great and always smiling. One thing we liked was that they did not pester people to get involved. You either showed up to play volleyball or whatever activity was going on or you didn't. There were always lots of people participating and we enjoyed not having them constantly in our face bugging us to participate. If you did participate in certain events you could win breezes dollars which at the end of your vacation you could cash in for shirts, hats, rum and other items. Great concept. The entertainment was good and the nightly activities were fun. We participated in the kareoke, beach party and talent show and watched the other evening activities. There is a casino on the premises and I did partake but only the nickel slots. Had a great time and won a little. Just across from the casino was a little area with table tennis and pool and just by that was an indoor gym. Lots of people used the gym while we were there.
Restaurants: We found the food at Jimmy's buffet to be extremely good. There was always a fish, chicken, beef and pasta dish to get as well each night they had their specialty. We were there when they served turkey one night, roast beef another and lamb on another occasion. They had a good salad bar and a cheese bar and a dessert area as well as ice cream. You would be hard presses if you didn't find something in this restaurant to eat. Most people we talked to enjoyed the food there. We enjoyed Munahana the Japanese restaurant tremendously. We ate twice there and we have eaten at Japanese restaurants before and this was a little different but most enjoyable. Our family ate at the Pastafari restaurant 5 times over the course of the two weeks. We love pasta and found the food to be extremely good. It was a little slow but hey, we are on holidays and we didn't want to be rushed out. There was a piano bar in this restaurant and the music was very enjoyable while you ate.
The portions at both the Munahana and the Pastafari are huge. My husband and I had to start asking for the kiddie size portions as we felt we were wasting too much.
Staff: I can honestly say that the staff were excellent to deal with from the people in the restaurants to the bartenders, the activities staff and the management staff. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make you happy. There was a bartender named Norma who always greeted us with a smile and was always bubbly...she was well received by many many people at the resort.
Note: I forgot to mention that on previous reviews that I read there was mention to take water shoes for the beach and water....I would highly recommend this. The beach is a little pebbly and can hurt the feet as well we found that the odd person got stung by sea urchins so to avoid unnecessary problems get yourself a $6.00 pair of shoes from Walmart.
We also brought along our own thermal mug which was also suggested and this was a great idea also....keeps your drinks ice cold.
I hope that my review helps you on your vacation to breezes. I know this forum helped us to make our vacation the most enjoyable one yet.
