Curacao Hotel, Resort & Villa Reviews Reviews
Habitat Curacao 11/02/2004
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
My family and I and our friends returned from a wonderful holiday at the Habitat in Curacao 10 days ago. We were four kids (aged 5, 6, 9 and 10) and four adults and we had booked two lanais. The lanais turned out to be bungalows with two rooms each and a nice terasse/veranda. A large cupboard on the terasse hid a kitchen with a refrigerator and a stove. The two rooms were spacey and nicely furnished. One with two beds and the other with a queen-size bed. Both rooms had their own bathroom with tub and shower. The rooms were airconditioned. The lanais are next to the road (but not much traffic on the road) and facing a small lake. The pool and the restaurant is a short walk (1 minute) away. The pool is spectacular, but not very big. It has a waterfall-edge facing towards the west and the ocean, and everybody enjoys the awesome sunsets there. There's no beach. Only a lot of corals and rocks piled onto the shore, but there's a bridge with a few stairs leading down into the stunningly clear waters of the Carribean Sea. The snorkling is GREAT! Don't worry if you're not a diver - you will spend hours in the sea anyway, mesmerized by the enormous amount of sea-life. We saw the huge moray (green and more than a meter long) that lives on the house reef a few times. Habitat IS a divers paradise. Most people come for the diving or to get certificated. My husband got his PADI-certifacate while there, and everybody at Easydivers were really nice. If you're not a diver you can still spend some wonderful and quiet days by the pool - everything is quiet after the divers leave by boat around 8.30 in the morning. The restaurant is excellent, but not especially cheap. The breakfast buffet is very good, but if you have a rental car, you may want to go to the big supermarket near Willemstad and store up on breakfast and thus save a lot of money. The Habitat is a bit out of the way - we rented a car for one week of our two week-stay. We did quite a bit of touring around the island. It is easy to navigate. Basically most of the roads run east-west or north-south. The rental company provided us with a small map, and we managed to find our way around on that. There are a couple of really nice beaches within easy driving distance from the Habitat. Go to Cas Abao and have your dreams of a tropical beach fulfilled. Snorkling is great there as well as on Porto Marie which is a bit closer to the Habitat. Landhuis Daniel is a very good restaurant only 10 kilometers from the Habitat. There are other good restaurants in Willemstad. The Waterfront and the Iguana Cafe come to mind. We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Habitat, and if we ever return to Curacao - which we would like to - we will stay there again. Highly recommended!
