This is a great resort. We stayed in the Villas which were very nice. There are no face cloths and it is hard to get more soap sometimes but other than that the rooms are quite nice. The Villa pool is very nice with a swim-up pool bar and lots of space. It is quieter than the hotel pool where all the daily activities are. The hotel pool also has a pool bar and the grill is right next to the pool. The grill is great because you can fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers all day and all night. It is open almost 24 hours.
The beach is man-made but very nice. There are lots of chairs on the beach and an aquatic center and volleyball nets at both ends of the beach. There is a lot of seaweed but it is no big deal. Watch out for the sea urchins farther out in the water. It is a short walk to the main beach in town which is really beautiful and much bigger.
The town is only a 5 minute walk from the resort and they have a market, stores (where you can buy rum and cigars) and a Pizza Nova which has really good pizza and bruschetta. Get a coupon at the front desk for a discount on your meal there.
The food is pretty good for Cuba. It was fairly tasty and there is lots to choose from. Both buffets are good and the a la carte restaurants are good. The Italian one is the best. The shrimp is great there! Bring snacks though. They charge a lot for Pringles in the gift shop and you will want them during the day and at night.
If you are into partying, the disco is lots of fun. Frankie is a great deejay (and really cute too!!). It is open until 2 but if you want to keep going the bar at the grill is open all night. The red slushy is great with rum.
Bring children's clothes for the staff and villagers. They really need it and appreciate it. You can even exchange clothes for items at the market with some people. They appreciate any clothing and household/toiletry items.
Overall, it is a beautiful resort and I thought the area was nicer than Varadero, which is too crowded.
