we have recently returned from varadero and had a great time (includes teenaged sons).
of the 5 all-inclusive resorts we have visited (2 in mexico, 1 in jamaica and 1 in the DR), the food at playa de oro was the least good. it wasnt horrible, but we have had better elsewhere. dont get me wrong. we always found plenty to eat, but it could have been better.
the animation team went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. the service was pretty good, overall, and the weather was super.
we probably wont return to playa de oro, or to cuba, because of the food, but the varadero beach is the nicest weve seen. the beach, alone, was worth the price!
