cuba hotel & resort reviews

villa cuba 03/26/02
Reviewers Rating: Great
Just returned from villa cuba. We were a family of 6 (4 kids) and I must admit I had a few worries before our trip, based on things I had read. My concerns were for nothing. The staff for the most part were very friendly and accomodating, rooms were clean, good sized, and I did not notice any "musty" smell, although as in all caribean resorts I've been to, a little damp.

Beach was very clean, and even after a huge storm, the beach at villa cuba, was among the first to be cleaned up. Food was ok. The buffet had plenty of chicken which was actually always very good. Usually a fish dish, some pork or turkey as well. There was a pasta corner in the buffet as well, which my kids told me was ok. Fresh fruits always available. Typical breakfast eggs bacon etc - kids did not like the pancakes or pre-made toast (it was "too sweet" however you could make your own toast with regular bread. The italian a-la-carte had pretty good pizza. Didn't try the 2 other a-la cartes although I'm told the international one was good. You had to reserve at 9:00am and the line was quite long..

The beach bar always had hotdogs/hamburgers and quite often fries. The dogs were good, just ask them to cook it well as they had a tendency not to cook these thinks enough unless you specified.

Also a late night cafeteria had sandwiches hotdogs etc.

Animation crew were very friendly, but not overly pushy. Evening shows were kind of dull, and the disco is dead. Most people hang out at the 4th floor bar.

The only real complaint I had was noise. There a bunch of chickens and roosters running around.. and boy do you hear them at 3:30 in the morning!!!! Also the hotel has paper thin walls and celings..I would suggest getting a room far from lobby/4th floor bar as the terrace is full of party'ers till quite late. Don't know if you would escape the rooster on the street side as opposed to the beach side.

We had a huge storm one night, and as a lot of the hotel is open air - the floors got soaked and the windows in the rooms leaked too.. however this is not a dailt occurance.

Overall I was quite satisfied. Great beach, friendly staff, pleny of water toys and nobody starved.
