Melia Cayo Coco 05/20/02
Reviewers Rating: Excellent
Just came back from Melia Cayo Coco on May 19, 2002. We were really happy with this hotel and definitely recommend it to couples and singles. The hotel rooms are simple but clean, spacious and comfortable. The facilities are great (not too large) with lucious grounds, beautiful gardens with lots of hummingbirds (i was even able to take close-up pictures of them). Also, lots of really little cute lizards. The staff was phenomenal. Always courteous (whether you leave a tip or not) and always ready to help you. We never had a problem getting food/drink. They sure made us feel like a million bucks. And they all spoke English. The facilities are great; everything you need is available. All the equipment is in excellent condition (brand new almost). Also, the entertainment staff is wonderful. Lots of activities for single people (non-stop all day), you can try everything from salsa dancing lessons to water polo. We loved the horseback riding (right on the resort); you can go everyday if you want to. They take you down to the beach and it's so beautiful. Perfect for couples.. book either early in the morning or at 4:00 in the afternoon when is not too hot. Also bring long pants and running shoes. The beach is super-clean and beautiful. If you walk towards the Senador beach (about 5 minutes walk), you'll find the most beautiful beach.. Absolutely gorgeous.. no words to describe it. It's so quiet and romantic. Perfect to see the sunset with a special someone. Wow! Snorkeling at this beach was also great. Tip: brings lots of bread and you'll be swarmed by beautiful fish (perfect for pictures). Now for the best part: food and drink. Let me just say that if you like SEAFOOD you will be in heaven! Absolutely DELICIOUS!!! everything from Lobster, calamary, squid, cray fish, salmon, large shrimp, massles, fish, crab !! all you can eat until you say no more. So fresh and well prepared and let's not forget their everyday authentic paella!!!! MMMMMM! Drinks? anything that you can think of they will make. ANYTHING. Their bars are always well stocked and my favorite was BANANA-MAMA. Delicious just squeezed orange-juice every morning and cafe con leche (coffe with warm milk). Their homemade ice cream was out of this world! You can get it all day from the snack restaurant. My favorite restaurant was THE BUFFET... (surprised?) I thought the food there was excellent. Their pastas were delicious and of course more seafood and paella!! and the large lobster tail chucks with garlic and olive oil was the best! Their pastries were excellent .. (they had this coconut-chocolate mousse that was to die for). The other two restaurants were meant for more intimate dinning. We had the prawns and tenderloin at the French (which is 6 course meal by the way) from soup to salad, two main courses and dessert. And the Italian was also 6 courses, we choose the antipasto, soup, chicken breast, tuna tortellini and a delicious baked pear with strawberry sauce. All quite good. What else can i say? This was a top-notch hotel. We felt like we were in a daze or a dream. At lunch at the grill was the best with a live band, which sang traditional Cuban songs.. and soft flowing breeze thourgh the palm trees with the ocean view.. Ah! If you go to this hotel you won't be disappointed. We weren't, we want go back. We wished we did the 2 weeks. Next time i suppose. This was quite hotel, if you like solitude or romance, this is perfect hotel. We saw some kids but not too many (not as much as the trip anyways). Also another tip: bring lots of 1 dollar bills. We found out that people at these resorts make $12.00 a month!!! and they rely heavily on tips, plus they deserve it! they work so hard to make you happy, we felt bad if we didn't leave anything. Also, they like gifts like shirts, sunscreen, sunglasses, watches and hats. Believe me, you'll put a big smile in their faces. They are truly hard working, wonderful people and they deserve so much more. Hope this review helps. We are very picky people and we have been to other resorts in Cancun but we found this Cuban hotel beat them by far.
