stayed in the hotel and i must agree with other reports that it is spotless and the maid service is the best of any hotel i have stayed in.great view, air con, fridge,tv,balcony, safe, two large beds, maid does wonders with the towels and keeps the place clean and tidy.
only used the pool once as we are beach people the hotel pool is bigger and more lively, but i felt the villa pool was better as its quieter and had less kids about.
loved the beach both hotel and the town.hotel beach has swallow water, maybe waist deep before the sea grass and some nasty sea urchin type critters but the water is so clean and refreshing.there is great snorkelling if you swim pass the sea urchins about 150m or you can use a pedalo and go a bit further.i saw a moray 1.2m long, puffer fish, parrotfish, angelfish, trumpetfish and loads of smaller reef fish.the coral is alive but not spectacular as the water is swallow.
the town beach is lovely, whitish sand,palm/coconut trees and amazing colour water.in the week is very quiet but on the weekend its full of cuban familys and really comes alive.people eating picknicks and fruit and loads of kids playing.well worth a trip
i did ten dives which cost $276 inclusive of equipment which was a bargin.i could write for hours on the scuba but if any wants to know more just email and i will elaborate.the eagle ray dive center
was great and a big thank you to the 2 davids, matti and ramon.
the food at the buffets was ok but after 2 weeks i was a bit fed up at the lack of varetity, but the seafood restaurant was great and the service is fantastic nothing is too much trouble.
hired a car for 3 days and went to banes, peurto rico beach and santiago de cuba where we stayed with a family which was fantastic $28 for bed breakfast evening meal for 2 in a great old cuban house in the center of town.again email for more details.car cost $60 per day and was a small jap model we dont have in the uk but did have ac .
small market near the town beach and 1 shop to buy rum, cigars and of course che t shirts but not a shopaholics place really.
loads of live music in the hotel from lunch to the show in the evening but i must be honest and say i only had a few late nights one of which was in la roca the town disco which was great on saturday full of cubans dancing amazing and i thought i could dance.
the best bar in the hotel is the one by the vilas pool because the coke is refridgarated a must for cuba libre and for the flowers and cats.but all the bars had quick service and the cristal draft beer was v nice.also the wine served in the restaurants was a resonable cuban number which hit the spot and my glass was always topped up by the fab waitress.
all in all a great place to chill out and relax and unwind
all the best ron
