My family and I were in Cuba for the first time from Sept. 1 to 8 2002. Before I left I read many reviews about this hotel and was impressed by the excellent words. We had a very good week there and were really happy with our room. The main hotel seemed to be empty and everyone in the bungalows. The ocean was beautiful, clean and the best I have ever seen. We rented mopeds $22 U.S. per day but struck a deal for the week. The hotel itself was really quite empty so we basically had everything to ourselves. Free scuba lessons in the pool pedal boats cayaks etc., The food was ok considering we were in cuba. (Just make sure your meat is cooked well they tend to undercook beef) We were expecting alot worse. I had brought with me lots of $1 bills to give as tips and they really came in handy! Generally the people working there were very good to us but we soon realized that the people who tipped frequently were treated better than the others. We also rented a car, but....... I would not recommed this because on our way to Havana we got 2 flat tires that we managed to fix ourselves (too many pot holes!!!!). I loved Cuba the country the climate the people but found myself feeling really bad for the people and the more I saw of the way people lived it made me depressed. Would I visit again? Probably yes because it is so beautiful and I would probably go back to the same hotel because it was so nice. I brought many little gifts (soaps, pencils, dollar store toys for the kids) and gave them to the maids waitresses etc., they really seemed to appreciate them very much. My nephew was bombarded with offers to sell his baseball hat, t-shirts and Nike running shoes. I would definitely recommend this resort for families and the day care centre and the people who work there are excellent!
