Brisas Del Caribe, Varadero 10/16/02

16/10/2002 We have just returned from a wonderful 10 days (last 3 days were at the Plaza in Havana - not so wonderful!). Brisas del Caribe is a great hotel set in beautiful gardens with a little pagoda, wonderful place to get married! There were 2 weddings while we were there. Beach is perfect, plenty of palm trees for shade, Grill Bar which changes into A La Carte in the evenings (but use plenty of Citronella spray!). The other A La Carte restaurant was truly gourmet and the musicians there, pianist and flautist, delightful. Choice of pools, one with plenty of entertainment, and quieter ones if preferred. Large buffet restaurant with a good selection. The main thing which made it for us was the entertainers (Animacione). Each and every one of them so professional and friendly and funny. We met so many people who have been returning to this Hotel year after year (from Canada, England, Portugal, all over) The staff always remember them. We will DEFINITELY go back again. Can't wait. Might go in November next time - English winter, Nov/Dec/Jan is a very popular time there. Oct hurrican season. We just missed Hurricane Isadore, but Lili came while we were there. Plaza Hotel in old Havana was a bit of a let-down after our lovely stay at Varadero. In fact Havana was noisy, dangerous (pot holes, etc) and very very annoying pestering from Cubans trying to make a Dollar with black market cigars and musicians. I love music, but must say every 2 seconds was a bit much. Suggest you do the Havana Special trip from Varadero, which takes in the Tropicano Show (must not miss) and if you have to stay in Havana, stay in the "new" part for one night only. It's like going into a time warp with the old Russian cars. Cubans and their country - lovely.
